Frequently Asked Questions

What can I expect in my first counselling session?

The first session is about getting to know you! Clients are invited to share what brought them to therapy and what they hope to work on, but there’s no pressure to share everything at once. The session includes a discussion of goals, an overview of how therapy works, and answers to any questions. It is a chance for clients to see how it feels to work collaboratively with their therapist, with comfort and safety as the priority.

Is therapy confidential?

Yes. All sessions are confidential, with a few legal and ethical exceptions, such as if someone is at risk of harm or as required by law. These exceptions are clearly explained to clients during their first session.

What is the cancellation policy?

Clients are asked to provide at least 24 hours’ notice to cancel or reschedule. This allows the session time to be offered to someone else and avoids a cancellation fee. You can make changes through the online booking system.

Can I use my extended health benefits to pay for therapy?

Most extended health plans cover a number of sessions with a Registered Social Worker (RSW). After each session you will be provided with an invoice, which you can submit directly to your insurance provider for reimbursement. Currently, we do not provide direct billing.

Is virtual therapy an option?

Yes. Individual counselling is available in-person in Maple Ridge, BC and virtually across British Columbia. It is recommended that you have a private area for the session, with limited distractions.
